Strong demand for EX60 spurs a boost in Volvo's production
05 Mar 2026|30 views
Demand for Volvo's upcoming fully electric EX60 SUV has exceeded internal forecasts by a considerable amount in a short span of time after its public reveal. The pace of order intake is also significantly higher than it was for the EX30 SUV after its global reveal in 2023 - this is despite the fact that the EX60 is currently only offered to the European markets.
Thus far, domestic orders within Sweden alone have already exceeded 3,000, motivated in part by a new Care offer, along with the inclusion of three years of free home charging.
Volvo Cars is in discussion to keep its Torslanda plant in Sweden open for an extra week during summer to meet the strong demand for the EX60
In order to meet the strong demand, Volvo Cars will prioritise a steady and prudent ramp-up of EX60 production without compromise on quality. Volvo Cars is currently in discussion with relevant labour unions, with the intention of keeping the Torslanda plant in Sweden open for an extra week in the summer to support the increased production - a first time in the company's history if it does proceed.
"We are very encouraged to see such strong demand for our game-changing electric SUV, and we are now reviewing our production plans for 2026, as we gear up for the start of customer car production next month," says Erik Severinson, Chief Commercial Officer at Volvo Cars.
