Volvo rolls out new Accident Ahead Alert safety feature
01 Mar 2024|180 views
Volvo is introducing a new Accident Ahead Alert feature which will warn drivers of accidents directly ahead of their vehicle.
The new feature makes use of real-time data from traffic management centres and will be available in compatible Volvo cars in Europe, starting in Denmark. It is capable of warning drivers of accidents up to a few hundred metres ahead, helping them to avoid collisions and congestion.
Volvo first rolled out its industry-first connected safety technology in 2016, which uses Volvo Car's cloud to allow its cars to communicate with each other and alert drivers of nearby slippery road conditions and hazards. The firm is now calling all road authorities to share anonymous traffic accident data and is encouraging other car makers to join it in offering similar technologies.
Volvo car owners in counties where the technology is available simply need to activate it via their car's centre display to benefit and contribute to general road safety. Volvo states that the technology only shares essential information which will be anonymised to protect the privacy of its users.
