A 2.0-litre Atkinson-cycle engine paired with two electric motors fed via a lithium-ion battery powers the new Honda Civic e-HEV Hybrid.

Honda has revealed the new Civic e-HEV hybrid.

The hybrid Civic is powered by a 2.0-litre Atkinson cycle engine, combined with two electric motors to generate a system total output of 181bhp and 315Nm of torque.

The Honda Civic e-HEV will sport the same honeycomb-pattern air vents as the petrol-only Civic
The engine is said to contain several new elements within its architecture to help achieve its high thermal efficiency of 41%, while the 72-cell lithium-ion battery also benefits from an increased energy density, making the power unit both smaller and lighter.

Honda states it is targeting a fuel efficiency close to 20km/L for the Civic e-HEV during WLTP testing.

Further aiding fuel efficiency is a new resin tailgate. The first for the Civic, the new tailgate is said to be 20% lighter than the one on the previous Civic, while its supporting hinges have also been moved outwards, allowing the car to achieve a cleaner roofline for a sleeker looking rear.

The interior of the Honda Civic e-HEV will retain the same horizontal design as its petrol-only equivalent, still sporting the striking honeycomb-pattern air vents that run the width of the dashboard. Honda states that high-quality materials will feature throughout.

High grade models offered in the U.K. will come with a 10.2-inch driver's instrument cluster, alongside a 12-speaker Bose premiums sound system. All models headed for the U.K. market will also sport a 9.0-inch infotainment system, equipped with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.
