Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles (VWCV) has announced that it will be supporting a solar farm project in Spain that can supply an annual capacity of 74 million kilowatt-hours of solar power.
The firm states that expanding renewable energy is particularly important as electric vehicles will only be able to make their full contribution to climate protection if they actually run on green electricity.
To this end, VWCV is working with sustainable energy providers like Statkraft which is based in Tordesillas, Spain, by supporting them with carbon-neutral electric vehicles.
VWCV intends to raise the percentage of battery-electric vehicles that it sells to more than 55% by 2030. VWCV has also set itself the objective of reducing the carbon footprint in Europe of all their vehicles across their entire life cycle by 40% compared to 2018 by 2030.
The company plans to achieve this with their first step being the ID. Buzz, first deliveries of which are set to commence in late 2022.
