A rear windscreen can be electronically operated and doubles as a wind deflector when the roof is lowered. The rear window can also be lowered when the roof is up to flood the cabin with an exciting soundtrack from the turbocharged V8 powertrain. The 12C Spider features a passive Roll Over Protection System where each buttress - That resembles the ears of Batman’s cowl at certain angles, contains a steel structure that absorbs impact to protect both driver and passenger.

The new 12C Spider will be priced from £195,500(S$387,174) in the UK and is now available for order with first deliveries planned for November this year.
Antony Sheriff, McLaren Automotive Managing Director said, "I am really excited to announce that the new 12C Spider is now available to order at new McLaren retailers worldwide. The launch of our second model is an exciting milestone in the growth of our company. The 12C Spider delivers all the thrills characteristic of a high performance roadster, and yet transforms into a raucous track beast at the flick of a switch. I can't wait to see it on road and track with customers later this year."
Incorporating Formula 1 DNA from the 12C coupe, and weighing only a mere 40kg more, the 12C Spider promises similar performance levels to its coupe counterpart. The 12C Spider is powered by the same engine that develops an incredible 616bhp, mated to a 7 Speed dual-clutch transmission besides containing a unique folding roof system. The ground breaking carbon 'MonoCell' chassis is also featured on the 12C Spider.
The 12C Spider features a two-piece retractable hard-top that is stowed behind the seats. Unlike its rival the Ferrari 458 Italia Spyder, the compact design on the 12C Spider retains the glass engine cover. The roof takes less than 17s to be raised or lowered and is operated through a switch in the centre console. Interestingly unlike many other hard top convertibles, the 12C roof can be operated at speeds of up to 30km/h. The 12C Spider retains its top speed of 328km/h but lowers to 315km/h with the roof folded away.

Vehicle Lift is also available as an option on 2013 models for improved ground clearance. This technology allows the vehicle to be raised by up to 40mm at the front and 25mm at the rear and remains in position at up to 60km/h. Other tweaks for the Spider include an audio system that adjusts its volume and tone according to status of the roof and a revised climate control system that also adjusts to compensate for the outside elements.
