Renault will celebrate not one, but a trio of anniversaries at the Retromobile Show this year. Held at the Porte de Versilles in Paris, France, from 5th to 9th February, the show will star three notable anniversaries from the French automaker - 100 years of Renault Type AG1 Parisian taxis, the 50th Anniversary of the Renault 8 Gordini and the 30th Anniversary of the Renault Espace.
The marque will showcase a recently restored Renault Type AG1, five examples of the Renault 8 Gordini (including a Type 1134) and eight Espace models at its 700 metres square stand.
The Renault Type AG rose to fame during the First World War. When the German army marched upon Paris, French troops were required at the front line to stop enemies from advancing. The Type AG, which was used as Parisian taxi at that time, was tasked to transport 3,000 soldiers and resulted in France winning the First Battle of the Marne.
The Renault 8 Gordini is indisputably one of the most sporting models ever produced by the French carmaker. Launched in 1964, it boasted a top speed of 175km/h at an unrivalled low price. The car also stole the limelight in rallying, when in 1964 four examples took the overall top five spots in the legendary 'Tour de Corse'.
The Renault Espace was first unveiled in 1984, when it took the world by surprise with its versatility as a people carrier. Other than four generations of MPVs, a number of special editions have also been created. For instance, the Renault Espace F1 (header picture above) was conceived to celebrate the Williams-Renault team's third consecutive win in the Constructor's Championship in 1994 Formula One World Championship and the sixth title for Renault's V10.
