BH Auto is planning to set up a branch in West Malaysia that offers its automotive services to Singaporean drivers with car trouble at reasonable prices.

A couple of months ago, this writer took a weekend trip up to Kuala Lumpur (KL) with some friends. Air tickets were out of our budget so we rented a Toyota Mark X. Ignoring advice from friends about letting the car and myself take frequent breaks at rest stops littered along the North-South Highway, I put the pedal to the metal in a bid to reach the city as quickly as possible.

BH Auto has plans to set up a branch in West Malaysia to help Singaporean drivers with their automotive problems
With a 2.5-litre V6, how could I resist? The first half of the day was spent gobbling up tarmac and we were making good time; with a little over 100km left to our destination. Until we hit a snag, every driver's worst nightmare - a blown tyre.

Out of nowhere, a driver in a t-shirt bearing the logo of a reputable automotive assistance company offered to help us replace the tyre with a new one and we agreed. Long story short, he solved the problem and tried to charge us an insane amount of money for his services.

What was the point of this story?

It's no secret that Singaporean drivers who meet with car trouble up North are prime targets for 'Good Samaritans' looking to make a quick buck. In times like these, a helping hand is typically perceived as an act of good faith and those of us who don't know any better would readily accept it.

However, Eric, the Director of BH Auto Services Pte Ltd, recognises this problem and is working hard to set up a BH Auto branch in West Malaysia to help Singaporean drivers with their automotive problems.

This branch of BH Auto, which is still in the works, will offer the same services that BH Auto is known for - namely, its towing services - at reasonable prices.

BH Auto plans to roll out four more fully equipped tow trucks to cater to the demand for towing services

Need a tow? Call BH Auto.

BH Auto offers 24-hour islandwide towing and recovery services. It currently has six recovery vehicles on the road and plans to roll out four more fully equipped tow trucks by next year. This is to cater to the demand for towing services due to a shortage of tow trucks in Singapore. These tow trucks come fully equipped to handle minor repairs on-site and reduce unnecessary towing, which in turn saves time and money.

That's not all the company offers, it is an all-encompassing, one-stop shop for all your automotive needs. BH Auto's services include insurance claims, repairs, as well as the buying and selling of cars; just to name a few.

Ex-con turned Director gives back to society

Eric has had some run-ins with the law in his youth. After a short stint in prison, he resolved to follow the straight and narrow. The BH Auto Director strongly believes in second chances and has plans to collaborate with the Yellow Ribbon Project to help fellow ex-convicts reintegrate into society through an apprenticeship at BH Auto. He wants to show them that all is not lost after prison and that they can still make something of themselves without returning to a life of crime.

These days, Eric can be found volunteering actively in church, guiding youths to learn from his past mistakes. He conducts programmes in church aimed at motivating and grooming youngsters to be functioning members of society. Eric has even introduced Lion Dance to his parish as a co-curricular activity; probably a first in Singapore.

BH Auto's customers are assured that their cars are in good hands when they are dropped off there
Eric's altruism doesn't just apply to church though, he goes the extra mile to ensure his customers receive the highest level of customer service at BH Auto; regardless of who they are. Getting down and dirty, Eric washes and cleans every car, inside and out, that comes through BH Auto's doors. The Director also offers his customers advice on car maintenance to ensure they don't spend unnecessary time and money repairing their cars.

Besides opening a workshop in Malaysia, which will be exclusive to BH Auto's members by the way, Eric plans to launch a BH Auto membership programme; along with an accompanying mobile app. The membership programme and mobile app grant customers access to BH Auto's towing services, along with a host of other exclusive services, in Singapore and across the border.

Placing customers' needs at the forefront

It usually takes some time to replace certain parts of a car, workshops have to order parts like alternators and starters from their suppliers and wait for them to be delivered. BH Auto, however, has an inventory of readily available parts to reduce its customers' waiting times. This allows its mechanics to immediately replace any malfunctioning parts once they have been identified.

Employees at BH Auto are trained to be proficient in multiple fields like customer service, repairs, towing and servicing, on top of their main skillsets. Eric insists on this so as to assure customers that their cars are in good hands when they are dropped off at BH Auto.

In a short span of six years, BH Auto has risen through the ranks to be amongst the top workshops in Singapore; a feat, which typically takes decades.
