An overlooked alternative to cars & public transport
15 Oct 2007|3,026 views
It is already a known fact that owning a car can be very costly in Singapore. You have to worry about so many things once you sign on the dotted line. The cost of the vehicle is not the only thing you have to take into account. There are several things to take note of, like, insurance, road tax, COE and the ever increasing price of petrol. With all that said, you cannot deny the fact that owning a vehicle is convenient, at times, necessary.
Particularly during the festive period, you will realize our world-class public transport system is not quite cheap and convenient. Traveling the whole day with the entire family can be a very costly and troublesome thing to do. Take a family of two adults and two children for example. They need to travel from Tampines to Jurong West. They decide to take the MRT to travel. Let us take the worst-case scenario and look at the convenience and cost of them traveling.
They live about 6 bus stops away from the MRT station, the weather is sweltering hot and the youngest child is only a year old. That means there has to be a bag for change of clothes, diapers, formula and other baby things that you might need. There also has to be a stroller. Your hands are full and you still have to jostle through the crowd. Don´t get the full picture? Imagine a soldier in full battle order walking through the MRT station during peak hours. That is how it is like. I am sure readers in the same situation will fully agree.

An alternative would definitely be a taxi. The cost, though, is more than double. The price of taking a cab from Tampines to Jurong West would be around $18 and that is not the only trip the family has to make. Festive season means traveling all over the island, visiting relatives you meet only once a year so there will be a lot of cab-taking done. On top of that, you still have to wait for a taxi. If you are lucky, you get one in less than five minutes. Otherwise, be prepared for a long wait especially if it is during Chinese New Year.
So what other alternatives are there? Easy. Rent a car. Short term car leasing can be a worthwhile expenditure, saving you from all that inconvenience and costing just a wee bit more, if not, the same.

Although Eazi Car has a huge fleet of above 150 cars for rent, it is still better to reserve your cars in advance to ensure that you will be guaranteed a ride. |
At Eazi Car Lease, they take the service a step further. Renting a car is as easy as ordering an upsized meal from McDonald´s. You can specify the car you want, the term you are renting it for and even have them deliver the car to your doorstep at a very minimal extra charge.
Eazi Car Lease has a total of about 150 cars in their fleet and they are constantly expanding their operations. The smallest car is a Kia Picanto and the biggest would be the mammoth of a vehicle, the Toyota Fortuner. The range in between varies from the new Fiat Punto to a Hyundai Sonata. A quick test drive of the vehicles proved that the cars are in tiptop condition and a comfortable ride ahead, is foreseen.
The cost of renting a car is from $45 to $120 a day depending on the car you choose. Unlike the bigger more corporate rental companies, there is no need for a deposit. You just call to book and settle the full payment when you collect the car. Easy? Definitely. They also have festive season rates and promotions going on from time to time. Block rental for the weekend is also available. Other than that, they are also able to customize the rental package to your needs. Petrol comes “as is” and all you have to do at the end of the day is top up to the level that the car came with, hand over the keys and walk away.
What about insurance? Do you need to pay extra for insurance? Worry not, for the cost is included in the rental fee. There will be no extra charge for insurance and you are fully covered during your period of rental within Singapore. For trips out of Singapore, there will be, reasonably so may I add, a small charge. Of course you could choose to travel into Malaysia without proper coverage, but in my opinion, that would be a foolish thing to do for you never know, the unthinkable could happen and you could be stuck somewhere in Ayer Keroh. A small fee for peace of mind seems like a fair deal to me. You are able to drive all Eazi Car Lease cars into Malaysia because they are registered with normal passenger plates. That is one of the many advantages they have over their competitors. Some rental companies register their cars as company cars, which will cause quite a complication when you try to cross the causeway.

Eazi Car Lease rents to new drivers as well. Drivers on ‘P’ plate are able to rent a car from them at no extra charge and insurance cover remains the same. This would be a very feasible option for new drivers who would like to drive but could not afford to maintain a car just yet. They are able to practice and at the same time travel around with the convenience of a car without burning a hole in their shallow pockets. Minimum age for rental is 21 and for new drivers, a guarantor has to sign the invoice, just to ensure that everything will be accounted for, should anything happen. Many other companies in the market require their clients to have at least a year of driving experience before they are eligible to rent.
Of course, when you rent a car, it is only fair that you bear the responsibility for any damage caused to the car. The difference with Eazi Car Lease is, when damage is done, you can choose to go to their authorized workshop or to your preferred and trusted workshop. The good thing here is, the price of the damage is not dictated to you. You are free to go to the cheapest workshop you can find to fix the damage. In some companies, you have no choice but to pay the price they quote you without giving you an option to find cheaper alternatives. You actually may have to pay more than the actual cost of the damage. Eazi Car Lease allows you to find alternatives. Flexible, convenient and fair. That is what Eazi Car Lease is about. |
