BlackVue DR600GW-HD and DR650GW-2CH - A better view of the road ahead
14 Oct 2014|17,394 views
In-car cameras are set to be the next big thing. They offer video evidence against cases of road bullying, reckless driving and more commonly, accidents - whether they occur on the road or in a car park.
In the case of an accident, on-board footage from in-car cameras can assist car insurance companies in processing claims and that nothing goes unmissed.
Nowadays, there are many cases where the investigation into an accident results in a 50:50 fault, which can cost drivers their precious No Claim Discount (NCD) and insurance excess. But with the support of in-car cameras, the video evidence will help to settle a claim quickly and more cost-effectively.
New BlackVue products
BlackVue DR600GW-HD
The new DR600GW-HD replaces the previous DR500GW-HD, sharing a lot of similarities with the latter, but with some subtle improvements. One of the most noticeable changes is the new matte black themed design, which will certainly make the camera more discreet when installed on the windscreen.
Compared to its predecessor, the new DR600GW-HD comes with improved 133-degree wide lens which provide clearer and less distorted video quality. But more importantly, the new DR600GW-HD features increased SD card support of up to 64GB which allows for more footages or longer recordings.

In 2013, BlackVue introduced its first dual channel in-car camera system - the DR550GW-2CH. Offering better quality and reliability with more improvements over the original model, the DR650GW-2CH is BlackVue's latest dual channel in-car camera with built-in WiFi and GPS.
The DR650GW-2CH is essentially an upgrade of the DR550GW-HD 2CH and is similar in design except for a new 'ninja' paint job - full black mount compared to the silver trim mount on its predecessor.
Keeping to the innovative cylindrical design means the DR650GW-2CH can be rotated 360-degrees to ensure optimum viewing and customisation of angles.
There are also further improvements including clearer video quality with the new lens, along with an improved recording bit rate as well as better Wi-Fi performance.

Featuring a 2.4-megapixel Sony Exmor CMOS sensor, the DR650GW-2CH produces ultra high-quality video of the view in front. The camera comes with dual-channel recording with full High Definition (HD) capabilities in front at 1,920 x 1,080 pixels and standard HD capabilities with a one-megapixel CMOS sensor at the rear at 1,280 x 720 pixels.

With the capability to support micro SD cards of up to 64GB, video footages from the front and rear cameras are also saved as individual files on one micro SD card for easy file management. The video footages can be watched via the free BlackVue application, which supports iPhone, iPad and Android-enabled devices. This application can be downloaded from Apple's App store or Google Play.
With Wi-Fi connectivity, live recordings can be viewed wirelessly. There is no longer a need to remove the memory card or for an in-built screen to watch the recorded video. In addition, there is a built-in high-sensitivity GPS system to allow verification of the vehicle's speed and direction data.
More importantly, the DR600GW-HD and the DR650GW-2CH are very easy to use and install. Settings and sensitivity can be easily adjusted using a computer (PC and Mac compatible), or via the BlackVue app after Wi-Fi has been set up.

BlackVue entered the local market in 2010 and has since become one of the leading brands here.
