BMW has launched the new X1, which charms with an angular and bold design, and above all, a powertrain that falls within the Cat A COE limitations.
The all new BMW X1 has been introduced to the media at the BMW Performance Motors Alexandra showroom in Singapore. With a refreshed design and increased proportions, the X1 is bigger and better than before.

Powered by a 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbocharged engine, the X1 sDrive16i, which is the only engine variant available at launch, puts out 121bhp and 230Nm of torque. This makes it the first BMW X model to be offered with a Category A COE.

With its increased proportions and angular design, the X1 looks much larger than its predecessor
Upon the first glance, you would surely notice how the all new X1 looks much larger than its predecessor.

In fact, its exterior dimensions have indeed grown - the car is now 53mm longer, 24mm wider and 44mm taller, along with a longer wheelbase and wider track widths.

Adding on to the increased proportions is the squared-off lines and angular design elements, which gives the X1 an even stronger visual presence.

Typical of BMW X models, the X1 features a bold, upright front end, with a squarish BMW kidney grille taking centre stage.

The bold front end of the X1 features large kidney grilles flanked by a pair of slim, stylish head lights
The iconic grille is flanked by a pair of slim LED head lights, which leaves a fair bit of space between them and the air intakes on the lower part of the bumper - a design that is slightly reminiscent of the F20 1 Series.

Meanwhile, the highlight of the rear of the X1 consists of a slim, stylish rear windscreen and a pair of three-dimensionally sculpted taillights.

Get into the driver seat of the X1 and you'll be greeted with an interior that has been heavily influenced by the BMW iX.

The Curved Display in the X1 is reminiscent of the BMW iX
BMW's Curved Display featuring a 10.25-inch digital cluster and a 10.7-inch screen sits prominently on the dashboard, once again evoking the premium ambience that you can experience in the iX.

Located at the centre console and below the central air vent is a wireless charging smartphone tray with a movable clasp to secure a smartphone, allowing the phone's screen to be in clear sight for the passenger and driver.

With a raised seating position, the X1's cabin space feels larger than ever, with excellent leg and headroom even for the passengers seating in the back of the car.

Passengers riding in the rear of the X1 can enjoy excellent headroom and a surprisingly good amount of leg room
The newly developed seats are also plush and comfortable. Meanwhile, the larger proportions of the X1 translate into a larger cargo capacity - a highly useable 540 litres that can expand to a maximum of 1,600 litres.

The all new X1 is also packed with technology. Regardless of the two trims available (xLine and M Sport), the X1 will be equipped with Adaptive LED head lights with matrix high beam, pulsating turn indicators and variable light distribution as standard here.

Also included as standard is a suite of driving assists including Cruise Control with brake function, front-collision warning system, Reversing Assist Camera and Reversing Assistant.

BMW's Driving Assistant Plus package is also available in the X1 as a subscription-based option
BMW's Driving Assistant Plus package, which includes Lane Departure Warning, Rear Crossing Traffic warning, Rear Collision prevention, Exit warning, High-beam assistant and Speed Limit Info, is available as an option (subscription-based or a one-time purchase) through the Remote Software Upgrades function.

The all new X1 offers a spacious and comfortable cabin along with an impressive and bold design on the outside.

And to round it all off, being a Cat A COE car also helps to keep the all new X1's cost in check, offering even more value as an entry-level BMW X model.

Car model Price as of press time
BMW X1 sDrive16i xLine (A) $243,888
BMW X1 sDrive16i M Sport (A) $245,888
