Four reasons a Volkswagen Tiguan should be your next family SUV

It's no secret that SUVs are all the rage with families these days. They look more rugged, and ultimately cooler than MPVs, and offer generous passenger and cargo space. But with the plethora of SUVs available in the market right now - with all manufacturers creating one in every possible size - which should you get if you're shopping around?
Well, for something bang-for-buck, stylish, spacious and comfortable on the go, you might want to consider the Volkswagen Tiguan. Here are four reasons why we think so.
1. A value proposition
Starting at $133,400 as of 20 December 2018, the Tiguan 1.4 TSI DSG Comfortline EQP hovers in between prices of Japanese brands and premium German ones.
Best of all, for something that depreciates under $12,000 a year, it offers the style, built and comfort associated with more expensive rivals alongside standard features such as LED headlamps, LED daytime running lights and a high-res, 8.0-inch smartphone-friendly touchscreen infotainment system.
2. Affordable costs, big value
Thanks to its economical 1.4-litre TSI engine, road tax for the Tiguan 1.4 is a mere $624 a year. Despite that, it offers a healthy 148bhp and 250Nm of torque on tap, allowing it to zip from 0-100km/h in 9.2 seconds, which is highly respectable for an SUV that offers this much space.
Volkswagen's TSI engine also affords great fuel economy. We managed to clock 12km/L, which isn't far from the marketed figure of 16km/L.
3. Bigger on space
Measuring 4,486mm long, 1,839mm wide and 1,673mm high, the Tiguan is larger compared to more expensive German rivals. This means it's got more presence, as well as more space to offer, especially where cargo-carrying duties are concerned.
With 520 litres of boot space at your disposal, storing everything from grocery bags to foldable bicycles will be easily stowed away with more than enough room for five on board.
4. Volkswagen's promise
Whether it's something as compact as a Polo or as spacious as the Tiguan, all Volkswagens purchased from the Volkswagen Centre Singapore come with the company's five promises.
From Express Friday servicing, appointments as quick as in three days and two-years parts warranty to exclusive ownership privileges and low cost of ownership with comprehensive warranty and maintenance packages, it's safe to say you're not just buying a more premium family SUV without the premium price tag, but also one that will be well taken care of down the road.
