The Editorial Team's favourite cars of 2022

It's a real sign of the times that half this list is electric, and most of the other half has some electrification in one form or another. But it is 2022, and that's just the way the car industry is going (or has already gone).
But, it has still been a year filled with exciting and interesting cars! Here's the Sgcarmart Editorial Team's selection of our favourite cars of the year (sorted in alphabetical order).
Audi A3 1.0
The Audi A3 is a good car, but the one that we're specifically impressed with is the 1.0-litre variant. It's basically got all the equipment and trimmings of its more expensive brother, but with a smaller price tag and running cost. And, the engine is refined, too! Performance may be modest, but delivered in a smooth and refined manner that impresses. While it may be pegged as 'entry-level', this particular A3 never for a moment feels 'cheap'.
Audi RS 3
Finally, Audi has made an RS 3 that's genuinely fun to chuck about. Yes, the potent engine, unique five-cylinder soundtrack, and boy-racer looks are all still there, but it is on the dynamic front that the RS 3 has taken a big stride forward, thanks to the RS torque splitter. Through corners, the RS 3 exhibits a new found level of grip and agility. Sharper yet more playful, the RS 3 is finally the hot hatch we've always wanted it to be.
BMW 2 Series Active Tourer
MPVs aren't really in style at the moment, but that hasn't stopped BMW from making a stonking 2 Series Active Tourer that reaches so much higher than its predecessor in terms of interior quality and driveability. Functional, practical and decidedly family oriented, the 2AT is a premium offering that doesn't compromise on all the important things necessary in a family car.
BMW i4
The flagship iX may have all the bells and whistles, but the i4 is the electric BMW that occupies the most obvious and arguably most important consumer segment for the German brand - the compact executive sedan. And it does not disappoint - with stellar range, impressive pace and expected dynamic capability, the i4 is a model that most Beemer owners will recognise - just electrified.
Polestar 2
The Polestar 2 is a well-designed and well thought out EV that treads a fine line between accessibility and premium, in perhaps the same way its treads a design balance between sedan and crossover. With its solid range, quality drive and a comfortable and highly functional interior, the Polestar 2 proves to be a quality EV to have, and pitched at a somewhat accessible price point too.
Kia Niro Hybrid
While electrification is all the rage, hybrid cars might be the best present day solution for most drivers right now. And the second generation Niro Hybrid sets a high bar within its segment. Beyond the hybrid powertrain being significantly improved from its predecessor in terms of refinement, the Niro impresses with its interior quality, sharp exterior design and a smooth and comfortable drive.
Lexus NX
Here's an SUV that makes no pretension about what it is - this is just an uber-luxe people hauler. No sporty this, dynamic that, the NX is straight up luxury. Every surface, outside and in, feels expensive and classy, put together with impeccable attention to detail. It also helps that Lexus has brought the car up to 2022 spec tech-wise. A number of powertrain options also offer customers ample choice.
Mercedes-Benz C-Class
The mild-hybrid drivetrain adds a significant dose of refinement and quality to the new generation C-Class, which thankfully matches the advancements the model has made in both design and interior quality as well. The interior equipment takes notable strides forward, while the C-Class remains delightfully comfortable on the road. And of course, the C-Class still retains an immediately identifiable exterior design.
Nissan Qashqai
As far as relatively affordable, mass-market models are concerned, the Qashqai is one of our favourites. It's much more handsome looking now, and the interior feels upmarket thanks to high build quality and ample soft leather. But what's most impressive is the drive quality - the engine is quiet, smooth, and refined, and the well-sorted suspension combine to make a highly comfortable crossover SUV.
Toyota Sienta Hybrid
By embracing its OG roots, the new Sienta is adamantly different. Yes, it's not particularly high-tech or luxurious, but it's not meant to be. It's effective and practical as a people mover, with plenty of features aimed squarely at sensible families. Toyota's hybrid technology is still top-notch (expect outstanding fuel economy), and there's plenty of quirky details that make this car stand out despite its affordable price tag and positioning.
But, it has still been a year filled with exciting and interesting cars! Here's the Sgcarmart Editorial Team's selection of our favourite cars of the year (sorted in alphabetical order).
