2012 Ford Focus ST details revealed

In the world of hot hatchbacks, Ford's Focus ST has always stood out for its blend of power, practicality, and reliability. However, tightening emissions standards across Europe threatened to kill off Ford's little pocket rocket.

But now there's a new, tree friendly version™

Based on the redesigned Focus, the new ST is powered by the turbocharged 2.0 EcoBoost 4-pot. And thanks to a unique intake, exhaust system, and ECU program, the tiny 2-litre produces 247 horsepower, and 266 lb-ft of torque - fed through a six-speed manual.

Compared to the 2.5 litre in the outgoing model, the new powerplant produces 10% more power, and 20% less CO2.

Underneath, the new ST has a stiffer body structure, which allows for a more aggressive suspension setup.

The new suspension sits 10mm lower than the standard Focus, and has a specially calibrated electric steering system, along with Ford's new torque-vectoring power control system to keep the front wheels in check.

The Tangerine Scream coloured body gets an aggressive front as well as a rear fascia with an integrated rear diffuser, and a huge front grille to allow better airflow to the engine.

Inside, the Focus ST gets an interior befitting a real rocket ship. There's a unique steering wheel and instrument cluster. Recaro seats upholstered in leather and neoprene and gold stitching, a metal shift knob, and 3 gauges atop the binnacle for turbo boost, oil pressure, and oil temperature.

They haven't said anything about the top speed, or 0-100 time. But, we're bettin' it's going to be seriously quick.
