A 30-year old man died in a horrific car crash that happened last Thursday, the 10th of January 2013. The accident occured around 10:30pm where Mr Cheng Heng Siang, the driver of a white Kia Cerato Forte, was killed on the spot. Mr Cheng, an IT analyst, went off the road and crashed into a tree at high speeds, eventually getting trapped between his steering wheel and his seat.
According to 44-year old civil servant Jack Chua, he was tucking his son into bed when he heard a loud bang. Five minutes later, he saw a few fire engines stopping by the main road across his flat. Mr Chua then went downstairs to get a better look.
By then, SCDF officers were trying hard to free Mr Cheng's body from the wreck. Mr Chua said, "SCDF officers were trying to cut open the wreckage using special tools. When they removed the body, they covered it with a yellow sheet." An SCDF spokesman said the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene, was extricated in 20 minutes by SCDF officers with two spreader cutters and a hydraulic pump.
Investigations on the accident are ongoing.
