Back in January, we reported a viral video clip, which showed two middle aged men fighting on a train that was approaching Yio Chu Kang station. On Wednesday, one of the two men, 50-year old Ng Cheng Kiat, was fined $2,500 by the court.
He was slapped with the fine after he pleaded guilty to one charge of affray, where Ng grabbed and punched 40-year old contractor, Teeng Kok Yong, in the face while they were travelling between Khatib and Yio Chu Kang stations.
According toThe Straits Times, with reference to court documents, the brawl broke out around 11:50pm on the 11th of January after Ng alleged Teeng was gesturing in a crude manner to the former's girlfriend when Teeng was playing with his tongue's metal piercing.
Ng grabbed Teeng by the shoulder and punched his face twice, while Teeng retaliated by kicking and punching back. The two ended up exchanging blows on the ground for about a minute before a fellow passenger separated them and were eventually escorted out of the train by staff at the Yio Chu Kang station.
Both men were arrested on the 20th of January and were charged with affray. Teeng is expected to be in court next month. The charge for affray carries a maximum sentence of a year imprisonment and/or a fine of up to $5,000.
Ng, who is married with three children, was unrepresented yesterday and repeated in court on Wednesday, Teeng's actions in the train were obscene. He also sought leniency, claiming that his wife is on medical leave after undergoing an operation recently.
