A 51-year old man was arrested on Thursday morning for suspected outrage of modesty on a train. A female victim claimed that she was molested by the man at around 8:35am yesterday.
She then confronted the suspect and brought him to the control station when they alighted at Bugis MRT station. The police arrived and placed the suspect under arrest.
If convicted of outrage of modesty, the suspect can be jailed for a maximum of two years, fined, and may also be caned.
The commander of Central Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner Daniel Tan, advised members of the public to be cautious when they are in a crowded area. He urged the public to remain calm if they encounter such crimes, to seek help immediately, and to call 999 as soon as it is safe to do so.
