$757m of contracts handed out to build two Thomson Line stations

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has awarded $757 million worth of contracts to two companies for the construction of two stations on the upcoming Thomson MRT Line.


As for the Upper Thomson station which will be located near Thomson Plaza, the $374 million contract went to Sato Kogyo. The Japanese construction firm is also working on a number of Downtown Line projects, including the construction of Downtown Line 3's Mattar, Bencoolen and Bedok North stations.
When completed, these stations will connect the northern and central parts of Singapore through the North-South Line's Woodlands interchange, the Circle Line's Caldecott interchange and the Downtown Line's Stevens interchange.
Comprising 22 stations, the 30km-long and fully underground Thomson Line will be completed in phases from 2019 to 2021. It will improve connectivity between neighbourhoods in the north, the Central Business District and Marina Bay areas.
With the latest two contracts, a total of nine contracts worth a combined $2.65 billion have been awarded for the construction of the Thomson Line. Construction of the Springleaf and Upper Thomson stations is expected to begin by the first quarter of next year and be completed by 2020.

The first contract to construct Springleaf station, worth $383 million, was handed to the joint venture of the local branch of Leighton Contractors and John Holland. John Holland is currently working on the construction of Downtown Line 3's Jalan Besar station.
