The new roadster uses a completely revised lightweight chassis with a longer wheelbase, a wider track and larger 20-inch wheels. The Boxster receives all-new exterior sheet metal with shorter overhangs, significantly forward-shifted windscreen, flatter silhouette and edgier character lines.
The mid-engined Boxster and Boxster S are using direct injection flat-six engines which feature new technologies such as electrical system recuperation, thermal management and start/stop function. The engines boast 15 percent more fuel-efficiency than previous engines.
The engine in the new Boxster displaces 2.7-litres and develops a peak output of 265 hp, 10hp more than in the previous one despite a smaller displacement than its predecessor. The Boxster S gets a bigger 3.4-litre engine delivering 315hp, 5hp more than its previous model. As before, six-speed gearbox is standard for both while the seven-speed PDK double clutch trans is optional. Fuel consumption for the Boxster with PDK is 7.7l/100km and the Boxster S is 8.0l/100km. Full throttle performance sprints to 100 km/h in the Boxster is 5.7 seconds and the Boxster S is 5.0 seconds.
With a much cleaner, more powerful look than its predecessor, the new Boxster is now in some ways seen as a younger sibling to the new 991 Porsche 911.
