04 Oct 2024|107 views
Sir Mark Cavendish, British cycling legend and the record holder of the all-time Tour de France stage wins, is joining Aston Martin as its first-ever Global High Performance Ambassador.
Cavendish's appointment helps to promote a high performance culture at Aston Martin and divert attention to its class-leading performance cars through collaborations. This in turn helps to improve Aston Martin's brand presence in international sport, including its participation at the forefront of motorsport, Formula One.
Known globally as the 'Manx Missile' for his speed on two wheels and his lust for success, Cavendish, who was handed the keys to a new Aston Martin DBX707 at his home on his birthplace on the Isle of Man, wasted no time in taking the ultra-luxury performance SUV for a ride.
A former Olympic medallist and former Road Race World Champion, Cavendish has carried the English flag for over two decades and is widely celebrated for his career highlights, which include a record-breaking 35 stage wins at the Tour de France.
His superiority expands to the track too, where he won gold in both the Madison and Scratch Race disciplines. Regarded as one of the best road sprinters of all time, Cavendish's rigorous drive for high performance makes him a one-of-a-kind athlete which will benefit Aston Martin.
The luxury car manufacturer will look to tap into Cavendish's expertise to build on the high performance culture within, and provide further insight from the world of high performance competition to benefit the brand's product and marketing plans. He will also represent Aston Martin at selected events.
Reflecting on his new role, Cavendish stated that he is "excited to get stuck into this new role with Aston Martin." A self-proclaimed car enthusiast, Cavendish describes representing Aston Martin as a "boyhood dream come true."
With a top speed of 312km/h making it the fastest SUV in the world, the DBX707 is perfect for Cavendish, who drove it for the first time on the roads of the Isle of Man. The car is finished in Photon Lime, portraying both Aston Martin’s racing heritage and Cavendish's own connection to the colour green, having been a two-time winner of the Tour de France green jersey.
