Audi goes head on with Mercedes S-Class with Matrix LED headlight technology

Resembling the outstretched wings of Egyptian goddess - Isis - the lighting components that house the turn signal lights consist of lighting elements that illuminate in a defined sequence. Audi claims this arrangement will allow others to perceive the driver's turning intentions with ease, even under difficult conditions.
While we haven't seen it in action, we believe this is similar to the motion in the facelifted Audi R8, where the turn signals 'scroll' in the intended turning direction instead of the usual 'blinking' action.
Each of the enhanced headlights contains 18 light-emitting diodes (LED) arranged in a strip that is subdivided into seven blocks. In each headlight, 25 LEDs generate a highly variable high beam light. Each tail light contains 24 LEDs in eight segments, which are used to dynamically indicate the turning direction. The Audi Matrix LED headlights also feature navigation-based cornering lights and, in cooperation with the night vision assistant, a marker light warns the driver of pedestrians in the dark.
Audi will present the upgraded A8 in September at the IAA International Motor Show in Frankfurt. Alternatively Audi will also stream the global premiere exclusively on Audi Media TV on Wednesday, the 21st of August at 9:00am (3:00pm local time).
The forthcoming A8 is set to set to sparkle like a finely polished gem when it globally debuts at the fast approaching International Motor Show in Frankfurt, Germany - mainly because of the new Matrix LED headlight technology.
