Audi Q8 Crossover Coupe gets green-light for production

There has been an high influx of luxury crossovers in recent years and this has not stopped Audi from green-lighting a new Q8 crossover for production.

The Q8 will be a luxurious new crossover that features a four-door coupe styling. Details on the model are scarce at present, apart from reports that it has introduced at marketing clinics and received rave reviews. In fact, the overwhelming positive responses prompted Audi to reportedly raise the production forecast to 25,000 units annually.

The Q8 will likely ride on the long wheelbase version of the MLB platform that will underpin the next generation Audi Q7, Porsche Cayenne and Volkswagen Touareg. With an aluminum-intensive architecture, the model could weigh 300kg lesser than the current Q7.

In terms of drivetrain, a variety of V6 and V8 engines are expected as well as a plug-in hybrid variant and possibly a high performance RS model with 550bhp.

The only problem is that the Q8 isn't expected to be launched until 2017, so we may have to hold on to our excitement for a long time. Nevertheless, expect more details to unfold along the way.
