Audi made a grand return to Sepang International Circuit recently, with five Audi R8 LMS GTC entries taking part in Malaysia's showcase Motul 12 Hours of Sepang endurance race. The entries were spread amongst four teams, with Absolute Racing leading the charge with two, and regular Audi campaigners 326 Racing Team, Climax Racing, and Champion Motor Sport fielding one each.
Absolute Racing entered a pair of its race-winning R8 LMS GT3 evo II Audis, with one for its B-Quik team and the other for its Malaysian HZO Fortis team. All five entries were driven by racers with varying wealth of experience.
Since its inception in 2000, up to today's Motul Sepang 12 Hours, the gruelling race has been won by a fascinating variety of drivers. Amongst them are some of Asia's most successful campaigners, as well as an impressive alumni of international stars including Australian Supercars champion Craig Baird, former F1 driver Gianmaria Bruni, and Le Mans winner Stephane Ortelli who - alongside Laurens Vanthoor and Stuart Leonard - gave the Audi R8 LMS the first of its three race wins (so far) in 2015.
Following a six-year hiatus, the race returned in 2023, with the Absolute Racing team then taking the car to its third overall race win.
The Motul 12 Hours of Sepang began with free practice on the morning of 14 March 2025, with five 15-minute qualifying sessions in the afternoon of the same day. The race then kicked off on the morning of 15 March 2025, ending on the same day at night.
