Jasper Thong of Audi Hong Kong topped the 'Cup Driver' podium for amateur competitors in his TCR debut at the Sepang International Circuit. A successful South East Asia debut for the Audi RS3 LMS was rounded off with a double class podium in round two of the TCR Asia series, with Thong in second and Phoenix Racing Asia's SK Tong in third.
"Today showed the speed of the Audi RS3 LMS," said Marchy Lee, Co-owner of Phoenix Racing Asia. "These are early days, as we are still learning how to get the most out of the car with the setup. I expect us to be even quicker as the season progresses."
Thong, whose Audi Hong Kong car is serviced by Phoenix Racing Asia, started round one in fourth and - after losing a place on the first lap - brought his car home more than four seconds ahead of his closest rival in fifth overall. Tong crossed the finish line three places behind him in the 13-lap sprint race. In round two, the two Audis started the race on the first row, with Tong on pole. However, the start did not go as planned for either driver with Phoenix Racing Asia's pole-sitter dropping to third before the first corner and Thong to last place after stalling on the grid. The 17-year old Audi Hong Kong driver then set about storming through the field to finish an encouraging fourth overall, with SK Tong in sixth, securing second and third on the 'Cup Driver' class podium.
