Audi S6 and S6 Avant detailed ahead of official launch at Frankfurt

Power is sent to all four wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, and Audi’s permanent four-wheel-drive system. This enables the S6 sedan to rocket from 0-100km/h in 4.8 seconds, 0.1 seconds faster than the S7, while the S6 Avant matches the S7’s century sprint time of 4.9 seconds. Top speed is electronically-limited to 250km/h.
The smaller capacity V8 engine of the new S6, combined with the cylinder deactivation system that shuts down four cylinders under part load, help reduce fuel consumption by as much as 25 per cent over the older V10 models.
All S6 models come standard with Audi's adaptive air suspension with variable damping that lowers the body by 10 millimetres, as well as a more powerful braking system. Like the S7, carbon fibre-ceramic discs are offered as an option.
Both the S6 sedan and Avant feature all the signature styling traits of Audi's S series including bespoke bumper and front grille designs, side sills, larger alloy wheels (19-inch standard, 20-inch optional) along with sport seats and steering wheel, and bespoke trim in the cabin.
The S6 and S6 Avant will use the same 4.0-litre TFSI twin-turbocharged V8 engine as the S7, which will also be at the Frankfurt show, and the unit churns out 420bhp and 550Nm of torque. The engine replaces the 5.2-litre V10 powerplant that was used in the previous S6.
