Since the debut of the 'Ur-quattro' in 1980, Audi has sold more than five million cars with permanent all-wheel drive, more than any other premium manufacturer worldwide. The Sport quattro concept's taut, strong body squats purposefully on 21-inch centre locking wheels with a five twin-spoke design.

The front of the show car is characterised by the hexagonal single-frame grille with a new, sculpted grille insert. The grille is part of Audi's new design philosophy and provides a first glimpse at the future design of high performance production models.
The CFRP splitter is shifted far to the front, in the style of a racing car. The wrap-around daytime running lights together with the central low-beam units and the Audi Matrix LED make for a sporty, determined look. The head and taillights are a reinterpretation of lightweight construction.
A crossbeam behind the rear seats provides additional rigidity. The multifunction sports steering wheel glimpses into future of Audi production models.

When the V8 and the electric motor work together, the Audi Sport quattro concept propels to 100km/h in 3.7 seconds before reaching a top speed of 304km/h. The combustion engine is a 4.0-litre, twin-turbo V8 which produces 552bhp and 700Nm of torque. The Cylinder on Demand (COD) system deactivates four cylinders under part load, while a start-stop system make the sonorous eight-cylinder unit very efficient.
Located between the power unit and the transmission is a disc-shaped electric motor producing 147bhp and 400Nm of torque. It draws its traction energy from a liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery in the rear. In EV mode, the quattro concept provides a range of 49km of emissions free driving.

Audi's renowned lightweight construction plays a large part in this concept. The occupant cell combines ultra high strength steel panels and cast aluminium structural elements. The doors and wings are made of aluminium, and the roof, the bonnet and the rear hatch are made of Carbon Fibre Reinforced Polymer (CFRP). The result is a kerb weight including the battery pack of just 1.85 tonnes.

The plug-in hybrid drive endows the Sport quattro concept with a system output of 690bhp and torque of 800Nm. Power flows through a modified eight-speed tiptronic transmission to the quattro powertrain, which features a sport differential on the rear axle. the show car’s efficiency is rated at 48.04km/L, equating to CO2 output of 59g/km.
