In a milestone for the brand in China, the Audi FAW NEV Company - a cooperation between Audi and its long-standing partner FAW - has commenced production of all-electric Audi models based on the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) platform from its plant in Changchun, the first such site in China to exclusively do so.
The Audi FAW NEV Company will start with the production of the Audi Q6L e-tron and the Audi Q6L Sportback e-tron, with a China specific variant of the Audi A6 e-tron set to follow.
As the first electric vehicle based on the PPE produced in China, the Audi Q6L e-tron differs from the international model not only in its traditionally longer wheelbase, but also through numerous design features and innovations for the Chinese market. One such example is that its interior sports a digital experience developed specifically for China.
The plant will create around 3,000 new jobs in the future, with a planned annual production capacity of over 150,000 vehicles - making the new site a key contribution to the electrification of the Audi product portfolio in China.
The plant will also incorporate the entire value chain of automotive production and is equipped with a press shop, body shop, paint shop, and vehicle assembly, with production of the high-voltage batteries for the China-specific models to take place at the plant’s battery assembly facility.
Audi will also be deploying an integrated IT solution in the Chinese market for the first time, facilitating the realisation of intelligent and efficient production using industry-leading digital manufacturing processes. In addition, as part of its commitment to sustainability, Audi will be implementing "Mission:Zero" at all of its sites, with production at the Changchun plant set to be net carbon-neutral from the beginning by exclusively utilising green energy.
Additionally, in close collaboration with its two partners, local Chinese manufacturers FAW and SAIC, Audi will offer a detailed portfolio of vehicles tailored specifically for the Chinese market.
