BAC launches single-seater, track-oriented Mono R here in Singapore

It's always exciting when a new automotive brand makes its arrival here in Singapore. But this latest arrival is something a little extra special.
The new brand here is called the Briggs Automotive Company, or BAC for short. And it's likely that you've never heard of it before (unless of cause, you've read our announcement when we first caught wind of the brand's arrival five months ago), but that's because there's no economical hatchback or sensible family sedan within BAC's lineup.
No, the cars that you can now purchase here in Singapore from BAC instead are the sort of track-oriented cars that you'd only purchase if you happen to find the Lotus Elise or the Alpine A110 a little bit soft.
And the new brand arrives here at special launch event held at the Conrad Hotel on 28 September 2022. Official distributor for BAC here in Singapore, NB Auto, has opted to kick things off here with the unveiling of the BAC Mono R.
This example presented to the media is one of only 40 examples of the Mono R set to be made, customised with a special gold/blue livery, and complete with a Merlion stitched into the headrest. Sgcarmart understands from NB Auto this chassis is number 38, so if you're interested, there isn't much time left to order one. But more on that later.
And track-oriented a car it is indeed. You will have noticed from the pictures that this BAC Mono R is a single-seater. Look closer at this example, and you might also catch on to the fact that its body panels are made from a carbon composite, strengthened with the use of graphene.
This, coupled with extensive use of magnesium components in its Hewland FTR six-speed transmission, all aid to keep the weight of the BAC Mono R to a low 555kg - critical for a track-day machine.
Powering this featherweight, meanwhile, is a 2.5-litre four cylinder naturally-aspirated engine co-developed with Mountune. And you will not be missing turbocharging here.
Notice that sizable protrusion just next to the driver's seat? That's a ram-air induction system, designed to force feed as much air as possible into the engine as you drive along at speed. And the end result of all this, is a total output of 340bhp and 330Nm of torque, all of which gets sent to the rear wheels through a limited-slip differential.
And of course, aiding this differential for handling in the bends in the BAC Mono R are double wishbones front and back. These are supported by race spec Eibach springs, and two-way adjustable Ohlins dampers. Braking, meanwhile, is catered for here by 295mm carbon ventilated discs, held by four-piston calipers made by AP Racing.
Want to catch more of this track-oriented single-seater? Sgcarmart understands that a new showroom, intended to serve interested customers in the region, has just completed renovation works and is located at 14 Benoi Cresent.
And even if the limited-run of BAC Mono R's have been all accounted for by the time you head down, there will also be the opportunity for you to spec your own BAC Mono (without the 'R', that is). This model does without the ram-air induction system and carbon rim barrels, or the Eibach springs and Ohlins dampers, but still produces a commendable 305bhp, while weighing in at just 580kg.
But here's the thing: If you can wait, a refreshed BAC Mono will also arrive here in Singapore, with its global release currently scheduled to begin in 2023.
This refreshed model will also have a body made from the graphene/carbon fibre material as seen in this Mono R, and will weigh in at just 570kg. And as an added sweetener, it will come with a new 2.3-litre engine, this time turbocharged to bring its output to 322bhp, alongside a peak torque of 400Nm.
*Do note the neither the BAC Mono nor the Mono R can currently be registered here in Singapore. BAC does state, however, that its cars are road legal in Malaysia, as well as continental Europe. You will furthermore be able to store your car in NB Auto's own storage facility. Expect the price for the outgoing BAC Mono to start from $300,000 (sold tax-free), while the BAC Mono R will start from $555,000 (also tax free).
