Bedok and Boon Lay among 7 bus interchanges to be enhanced

The LTA has announced that seven bus interchanges across the island will soon receive enhancements targeted at improving accessibility, providing more commuter-friendly features, and also upgrading staff facilities.
These include the Ang Mo Kio, Bedok, Boon Lay, Clementi, Sengkang, Serangoon and Toa Payoh bus interchanges (BIs) - all of which happen to be already air-conditioned. Currently, two newly-completed BIs already offer these features: Jurong Town Hall, as well as Tengah.
On a more general level, the enhancements will include the replacement and upgrading of systems such as air-conditioning and lighting. Service offices and staff lounges will also be refurbished in the process.
More specifically, however, these BIs aim to be more inclusive through providing facilities such as wheelchair accessible toilets, tactile guided paths and Braille signs on handrails.
Promising to make the BIs more elderly-friendly are priority queue zones and additional seating areas, while baby care/family washrooms and commuter care rooms all also see to the needs of families with younger children.
The enhancements works are set to commence this month across all seven selected BIs, with the LTA targeting completion by 2027.
If you happen to pass through these interchanges regularly, fret not: The LTA promises that there will be no disruption to bus operations in the process. To minimise inconvenience to commuters, it has also stated that works affecting boarding/alighting berths will be carried out one berth at a time. Wayfinding signs will also be installed to guide commuters, while necessary measures will be put in place to minimise noise and dust.
