BMW Alpina Edition 50 launched locally

BMW Alpina, together with its exclusive distributor in Singapore, Munich Automobiles, has launched the special edition version of its B5 Bi-Turbo and B6 Bi-Turbo models. Called the Edition 50, they were created to celebrate the performance specialists' 50th birthday and just 100 cars will be produced with an increased output of 591bhp.
This represents a substantial growth of 60bhp over the standard B5, making the Edition 50 BMW Alpina's most powerful production car ever. Torque also grows to 800Nm, helping to shorten the 0-100km/h sprint to just 4.2 seconds.
Power is sent rearwards through an eight-speed Switch-Tronic gearbox and limited slip differential, and comes from the same BMW 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 as the standard B5. In the Edition 50 however, further conditioning and the fitment of more effective turbos helps to deliver up to 1.2 bar of pressure.
Weight has also been reduced in the Edition 50, with new wheels shedding a substantial 15.6kg. This impressive saving has largely come thanks to the switch from cast to forged aluminium manufacturing. A further 17kg has been saved with the fitment of an Akrapovic developed titanium exhaust that also helps to reduce back pressure and offers a powerful V8 soundtrack.
The Edition 50 models will be offered in BMW Alpina Green, BMW Alpina Blue or a new 'Edition 50 Sepia' finish. The interior can also be specified with seats quilted in Forest Green complemented with yellow and black stitching. An Edition 50 model is identified by stylish BMW Alpina piano black trim, '1965-2015' logos on the backrest, floor mats and key fob, as well as company founder Burkard Bovensiepen's signature on the centre console.
Four cars have been allocated to Singapore thus far, and all units have been spoken for as of press time.
