BMW Group Asia appoints new Managing Director

From 1 February 2026, there will be a new Managing Director of BMW Group Asia as Rene Gerhard steps up to the helm. Prior to this, he served as President and CEO of BMW Group Thailand for nearly two years.

Having worked with the BMW Group since 2002, Gerhard moved to the APAC region in 2016 as Director of Sales at BMW India, before heading to Australia in 2019 to lead BMW Sydney and Mini Garage as Dealer Principal and subsequently, Director of Sales and Dealer Development of BMW Group Australia, before making his penultimate stop in Southeast Asia in 2024.

Lars Nielsen, the current Managing Director of BMW Group Asia, will relocate to Munich, Germany after spending the last 11 years leading Sales and Marketing in Thailand and the Middle East Region, before taking on the Managing Director role in Singapore in 2021.

In Munich, Nielsen will take up the newly established role of Head of Sales Steering and Strategy for Region Asia Pacific, Eastern Europe, Middle East, and Africa.
