From the first X model - the X5 - that was unveiled in 1999 to the X1, every Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) from BMW has been a leader in its segment and continues to set pace among its rivals today. Then in 2008, BMW rewrote car glossaries and design with the critically acclaimed X6 - the first Sports Activity Coupe (SAC), which brought together the rugged looks of an X model with the proven sporting character of a BMW Coupe.

Now another chapter in the X range history unfolds - with the BMW Concept X4. Finished in 'Long Beach Blue' - the new SAC concept from BMW aims to continue the success story of the BMW X6 with eye catching proportions, tight contours and numerous avantgarde details.
Evident from the pictures, the X4 is a symphony of the F30 3 Series sedan, the X3 and the sportier X6. Measuring 4,648mm long, sitting 1,915mm wide and standing 1,622mm tall, its exterior dimensions signal sporting elegance and powerful robustness.
The front fascia displays trademark BMW features like the kidney grille and the full LED headlights - which contains an updated take on the original twin circular headlights.
In profile, the trademark BMW style, a longer 2,810mm wheelbase, relatively long bonnet, short overhangs and a set back greenhouse lend the car an undeniable dynamism even when standing still. Expressive 21-inch bi-colour light-alloy wheels round off the car's appearance when viewed from the side. Like the X6, the roofline elegantly sweeps downwards to elongate the car's profile stance.
The X4's derriere replicates the sporting elements of the front with an emphatically horizontal flavour. The body's lines and slim LED tail lights positioned at the outer edges emphasises the muscular wheel arches and wide track. Horizontal lines visually split the rear into sections, while light surfaces reduce the car's visual height and underline its width. The rear apron is probably the most striking element here, which provides a wide, full length interpretation of the front apron's large outer air intakes.

Despite the short history of the X range of vehicles, average sales across the BMW X line up have progressed on a constant upward curve where currently one in four new BMW cars is a X model.
