Bostandzhiev apppointed as co-Managing Director of VGS

Volkswagen Group Singapore (VGS) has appointed Denyu Bostandzhiev as its new co-Managing Director.

With this appointment, VGS will continue to be led by two Managing Directors, with Dr. Kurt Leitner leading the firm's Sales, Marketing, Finance and Admin and Human Resources units, while Mr. Bostandzhiev will lead its After Sales and Information Technology functions.

The move follows the retirement of Mr. Ricky Tay, who handed over his directorial duties to Dr. Kurt Leitner in December of 2022.

Mr. Bostandzhiev is said to bring over 20 years of experience in the automotive and engineering industry, which spans across three different continents. He is no stranger to the South-East Asian region either, having previously been based in Malaysia, and responsible for the rebrand of Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia and establishing the operations for the locally assembled Volkswagen Arteon, Tiguan Allspace, and Golf GTI in 2016 (Catch our review of the Mk8 Golf GTI here).

He also joins VGS after having served as the Managing Director of Porsche Ukraine LLC, wherein he adeptly implemented a successful Audi and Volkswagen sales strategy and spearheaded the market entry of the disruptive and distinctive Cupra brand.

VGS announced in May of 2023 that it will be representing the Cupra brand here in Singapore

This experience should come in handy as VGS also recently announced its takeover of the Cupra brand here in Singapore.

Together with Dr. Leitner, Mr. Bostandzhiev will oversee both the Singapore and Malaysia markets, folding in his expertise in business strategy and operations, product development and branding to raise the profile and strengthen the Volkswagen, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, Skoda, Seat and Cupra brands in Singapore, as well as Volkswagen Passenger Cars and Audi portfolios in Malaysia.

Both Dr. Leitner and Mr. Bostandzhiev will split their time between Singapore and Malaysia as co-Managing Directors for Volkswagen Group Singapore, Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia and PHS Automotive Malaysia.
