The original BYD e6 was among one of the first electric cars to prowl the roads here, and likely the model that introduced the brand to most of us. Fast forward to 2021 and the second-generation BYD e6, an entirely new car with improved range, space and refinement was introduced.
The e6 quickly became the choice of many Private-Hire Vehicle (PHV) drivers and are now a common sight on Singapore's roads. On 13 February 2025, BYD launched the updated BYD e6 at the Pan Pacific Hotel's Pacific Ballroom to a large group of guests that included the media, BYD's industry partners, along with stakeholders such as the PHV drivers.
On the outside, the updated BYD e6 remains unchanged, sporting the same sleek elongated MPV looks. However, the innards of the e6 has been given appropriate upgrades that are sure to be welcomed by drivers familiar with the previous car.
With a more powerful motor, the BYD e6 now puts out 100kW (134bhp) and 250Nm of torque for a brisk drive
While the second-generation BYD e6 had a substantial range improvement from the original model, its low power of 70kW (94bhp) and 180Nm of torque was rather lacklustre. With the new e6, BYD increased its output to 100kW (134bhp) and 250Nm of torque for an effortless drive.
The powertrain update includes support for 90kW DC fast charging (up from the previous car's 60kW limit). This allows the car to be fully charged in just 1.2 hours, ensuring a productive drive with minimal downtime.
While the previous e6 had a fixed second-row seat, the updated e6 has collapsible second and third-row seats
With this update, the BYD e6 also gained two more seats, transforming it into a 7-seater MPV. Additionally, the second and third-row seats are now collapsible, forming a flat floor that is perfect for hauling cargo. With the versatile seating layout and a generous cargo space of 180 to 580 litres, the BYD e6's practicality has been maximised.
To support the addition of the third-row seats, the rear air-con vent has also been revised. The e6 now features aircon vents on each side of the headliner (as opposed to the previous central air-con vent at the centre console), allowing cool air to be directed to all rear occupants.
Interested buyers of the BYD e6 will get to enjoy a host of benefits including 20% discounted charging rates for the first year (selected charging providers), 10 years / 500,000km battery warranty and free servicing, along with complimentary in-car camera and solar film. Flexible financing options are also available when you purchase the new BYD e6.
