“The all-new Colorado builds on Chevrolet’s strong truck heritage,” said Cathy Clegg, GM vice president of Labour Relations. “As we celebrate the first 100 years of Chevrolet today, it is exciting to bring this new global product to the Wentzville team. They also have a strong heritage – a long-standing commitment to building quality products."
The Colorado mid-sized pickup truck was recently unveiled in Thailand, and is based on an all-new midsize truck architecture developed by the GM’s Brazilian arm. The company has not yet revealed any technical specs for the American model, but it is believed that the new Colorado will be offered in 2-wheel-drive and 4-wheel-drive regular, extended-cab and crew cab variants, like the Thai market version.
The news comes shortly after GM confirmed that the Colorado will be made available for sale in North America, and GM has said that it will invest around $380 million to the prepare the Wentzville Assembly Plant in Missouri for the new line, and as a result, create or retain about 1,260 jobs hourly and salaried jobs.
