“Korea is the first country to produce and sell the all-new Malibu,” commented GM Korea President and CEO Mike Arcamone. “With expressive styling, a comfortable cabin, outstanding ride and handling, and top-notch safety, it will exceed the expectations of consumers.”
The new Malibu measures 4,865mm long, and will be offered in South Korea with a choice of two four-cylinder Ecotec petrol engines, both linked to an automatic transmission. The base model is a 2.0-litre that produces 141bhp, while the second engine is a 2.4-litre that churns out 178bhp.
The mid-sized Chevrolet Malibu is expected to go on sale in China by the end of this year, followed by the US and Europe early next year. The car will also go on sale in Australia towards the end of 2012, with the car to be badged as a Holden.

The Malibu name is now in its eighth-generation, but it has only been offered in the US in its 35 year history. Chevrolet has decided to put the latest generation of the Malibu on sale globally however, and South Korea is the first market in the world to receive the sedan. Production of the Malibu is expected to begin at General Motors’ manufacturing plant in Bupyeong, South Korea, and the car is expected to go on sale in the Korean market by November.
