Cycling network across Tampines gets a quick boost

Residents of the Western quarter of Tampines can now opt to cycle along dedicated cycle paths as they make their way towards Tampines Central Park or Our Tampines Hub, thanks to the addition of more than four kilometers of cycling paths within the town.
The paths are located along Tampines Avenue 1, 4, 5 and 8, and add to a cycling network that now totals 25km in the town.
Five pedestrian crossings along the cycling routes have been widened to enhance safety for both pedestrians and cyclists The LTA states that cyclists and pedestrians can easily identify the new cycling paths thanks to their distinctive red coating. They are also equipped with safety markings and speed regulating strips where appropriate to remind users to slow down and keep a look out for other path users.
Mapboards have been installed at the junctions of Tampines Avenue 5 and 8, as well as the junctions of Tampines Avenue 8 and 1, to ease wayfinding for users of the paths.
The Land Transport Authority plans to expand Singapore's cycling path connectivity to around 1,300km by 2030 under the Islandwide Cycling Network programme. Towns already identified to receive new cycling paths include Taman Jurong, Ang Mo Kio, Bishan and Bukit Panjang.
