A total of 91 summons were issued in a joint operation by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) and Traffic Police (TP) over New Year's Eve and New Year's Day to clamp down errant motorists.
Six motorists were arrested for serious traffic violations such as dangerous driving and drink driving, including a man, believed to be in his 20s, who was travelling at 146km/h in his Nissan GTR sports car in Seletar Link - more than twice the legal speed limit.
Except for dangerous and reckless driving, there has been a rise in traffic offences.
Between January and November last year, 210 motorists were arrested for reckless driving that could cause death, down from 323 in the same period in 2013.
In the first 10 months of last year, 2,588 motorists were caught for drink driving, compared with 3,019 for the entire 2013, and 2,917 for the entire 2012.
The LTA dealt with an average of 1,838 cases of illegal modifications every month last year until November, a 26 percent jump from the monthly average of 1,457 for the whole of 2013.
The local papers also reported that TP is increasing its efforts to clamp down illegal racing, with more checks conducted at areas of Orchard Road, Seletar Link and Lim Chu Kang Road.
If convicted of dangerous driving, drivers will lose their licences. First-time offenders can be fined up to $3,000 and jailed for up to a year.
Motorists found guilty of illegally modifying their vehicles face a fine of up to $1,000 or up to three months' jail for the first offence.
