ERP gantries to be set up on AYE near Clementi
17 May 2013|4,531 views
From the middle of next year, motorists who use the Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE) near Clementi during peak hours will have to pay toll.
Three Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) gantries will be installed to regulate traffic flow towards the city during morning and evening peak hours. One of them will be set up on the AYE before the Clementi Avenue 6 exit. The two others will be placed on slip roads towards the expressway at Clementi Avenue 2 and 6.
In the westbound direction, one gantry will also be built before the Clementi Road exit. This gantry will only operate in the evening.
Rates and operating hours of these gantries will be revealed at a later date.
Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew has attributed the set up to the increasingly congested stretch of the AYE over the past few years. Studies have shown that traffic speeds have fallen below the 'optimal range', which is rated between 45km/h to 65km/h.
Congestion is expected to worsen after urban developments in the area, such as around Jurong Gateway, are set to be ready in coming years. Hence, the installation of the gantries came as a need to better control the traffic flow.
