Small hatchbacks like the Toyota iQ and the new Volkswagen Polo have been nominated, and are expected to be early favourites. The oddball Skoda Yeti has also made the cut, joining more conventional people carriers like the Citroen C3 Picasso and the Peugeot 3008 in the list.
Opel is expecting to claim the award for the second year in a row with the new Astra, after winning last year’s award with the Insignia, while the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class completes the seven car line up.
58 jurors made up of automotive journalists from 22 countries across Europe will cast their vote for the 2010 European Car Of The Year by 27 November, with the winner to be announced on 30 November.
