Documenting the illustrious history of the Formula One Grand Prix from 1952 to the present, "Grand Prix: The Racing Legend through Photography" features 64 black, white and colour photographs by father and son team, Bernard and Paul-Henri Cahier.
Both highly acclaimed photographers in the world of motor sports racing, they offer a rare glimpse into the history of the sport and the world of Formula One racing with its mix of high technology, sportsmanship, teamwork and celebrity-dom.
The Cahier team has photographed nearly everyone - from Juan Manuel Fangio and Giuseppe Farina in the 50s to modern day racers such as Niki Lauda, Gilles Villeneuve, Alain Prost, Ayrton Senna, Michael Schumacher and even the favourite of the moment, Lewis Hamilton.
The exhibition takes a clear transition through time as the vintage black and whites of Bernard Cahier gives way to the contemporary, coloured photographs of Paul-Henri Cahier.
The Cahier Archive was started by Bernard Cahier, who ventured into racing photography in 1952. Since then, almost every single Formula One Grand Prix race has been photographed by both Bernard and his son, Paul- Henri, making the Cahier Archive, with a collection of over 400,000 photographs, one of the most complete repositories of motor sports racing images spanning six decades.
Photographs from the Cahier Archive have been exhibited at several Formula One circuits around the world, from Monaco to Montreal. Singapore will be only the second country in Asia, after Japan, to present an exhibition from the Cahier Archive during its inaugural Grand Prix race. With the recent passing of Bernard Cahier at the age of 81, Paul-Henri Cahier continues the work of the Archive. To this end, he will be in Singapore between 24 to 28 September to photograph the Singapore night race, which will then form part of the Cahier Archive.
"It is going to be a great exhibition and a pleasure to be able to share the best photos from our collection with the people of Singapore on the occasion of this extraordinary event, the first night race in the history of Grand Prix racing! I really look forward to photographing this unique race!" says Paul-Henri Cahier.
Formula One enthusiasts and collectors will also have the opportunity to own a signed copy of the photographs from the Cahier Archive as works in the exhibition will be on sale. The exhibition is on from 20 September to 31 October 2008 at the Cathay Gallery located at The Cathay, 2 Handy Road, Level 2, Singapore 229233. The Gallery is open from Monday to Saturday from 12pm to 6pm.
"Grand Prix: The Racing Legend through Photography" is presented and organised by Phish Communications. It is co-presented by the Cathay Gallery and has been made possible by main sponsor Canon and sponsor, the French Embassy in Singapore as well as the support from GH Mumm Champagne, the official F1 Champagne, the French Business Chamber of Commerce (FCCS) and the Alliance Francaise de Singapour. The exhibition is also part of the Singapore Grand Prix Season and Encore! The European Cultural Season in Singapore.
