Subaru has unveiled the fifth generation Forester Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) at the New York Motor Show. Like the Impreza and XV, the Forester is based on the Subaru Global Platform (SGP).
Visually, the Forester retains much of its rugged looks, with slight visual tweaks, such as a larger grille at the front and LED head lights as standard.
Design tweaks and the move to the SGP means that the Forester has a 30mm longer wheelbase and 36mm more rear legroom.
The base Forester comes with a 6.5-inch multimedia system, while higher trim levels will get 8.0-inch Multimedia Plus and Multimedia Navigation systems. Subaru's Starlink interface features standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.
All Foresters will be powered by a modified version of the present 2.5-litre four-cylinder Boxer engine. The engine now produces 182bhp and 239Nm of torque, which is a 12bhp and 3Nm improvement from before.
Also fitted as standard are the symmetrical all-wheel drive and Lineartronic CVT gearbox. Additionally, the new Forester will also feature Subaru EyeSight, the brand's suite of active safety and driver assistance technologies.
