Renault has revealed a few pictures of the exterior design of its new Renault 4 E-Tech 100% electric car ahead of its official reveal at the Paris Motor Show in mid-October. While not the first in a long line of Renault electric cars, the Renault 4 E-Tech - which takes inspiration from the original Renault 4 - boasts some very impressive features, as well as a few returning ones.
The 1961 Renault 4, the automobile brand's first family car with a front-mounted engine and no transmission tunnel, transformed the vehicular market and went on to attain symbolic status.
Thanks to its spacious and versatile capabilities, it became the go-to car for any scenario, for driving around cities or countrywide, on weekdays and weekends, to work or on holidays. The Renault 4 was an overnight sensation, becoming a people's-choice car in over 100 countries with over eight million cars produced.
The Renault 4 E-Tech utilises the same AmpR Small chassis as the Renault 5, boasting a best-in-class indoor space and uncompromising agility and comfort. The car will be built in Maubeuge, France, and is slated to be released for retail in 2025.
A few highlights of the Renault 4 E-Tech include an embossed 4 on the tailgate that features the car's name, and a rectangular lit rim encircling the LED headlamps found at either end. The Renault 4 E-Tech is the first Renault automobile to have a backlit emblem in the centre of its face.
Other noteworthy features include a revamp of the 1961 Renault 4's tail-lights to make it look modern and aesthetically pleasing, door-sill sculpting in the form of three parallel moulded lines, a tailgate with a low loading sill, and a retractable fabric roof.
The Renault 4 E-Tech also has some notable features in homage to its successful predecessor, with the spoiler at the further end of the roof replicating the original roof shape, the front and rear bumpers containing vertical overriders, and the iconic trapezoidal quarter windows above the back wheels.
With more electric cars slated for release, Renault is showing that it can keep up with the direction of the automobile industry.
