Ford Fusion's 1.5-litre EcoBoost to have 178bhp

Earlier in April this year Ford announced a new 1.5-litre EcoBoost petrol engine will be produced to replace the current 1.6-litre unit.

EcoBoost is a line of powertrains manufactured by Ford that is critically acclaimed and recipient of the esteemed International Engine of the Year awards among others.

The four-cylinder 1.5-litre EcoBoost engine has an aluminium block and head with twin independent variable camshaft timing. It has a power output of 178bhp and 240Nm of torque. Torque delivery is slightly lesser but attained quicker in comparison to the 1.6-litre unit.

Sadly Performance or efficiency rating figures were not disclosed but it should match its predecessor. The new power unit will be manufactured at Ford's plant in Craiova, Romania.
