Friendly Streets pilot to commence in five neighbourhoods

The LTA has announced that it will be rolling out its Friendly Streets initiative in a total of five neighbourhoods in Singapore.
The initiative is an expansion of existing efforts including the demarcation of Silver Zones, School Zones, and the various road repurposing works (such as this one in Tiong Bahru).
The Friendly Streets initiative seeks to make daily journeys to key amenities by walking and cycling safer, more convenient and comfortable, though the use of vehicular traffic-calming measures including widened footpaths, barrier-free crossings, and signalised junctions which prioritise pedestrians.
Street signage and markings at these locations will also be implemented to reduce traffic speeds and to remind drivers to slow down that they are entering an area with more inclusive and people-friendly features.
The new initiative will be piloted in a total of five neighbourhoods: Ang Mo Kio, Bukit Batok West, Tampines, Toa Payoh, and West Coast (look through the gallery above for the exact location of each affected street). The LTA states that these locations have been chosen as they see high pedestrian and cyclist usage and are additionally located new amenities including markets and schools.
It further states that it will work closely with a project taskforce comprising of Town Council members, grassroots leaders, government agencies as well as representatives from relevant schools, hawker or merchant associations of each neighbourhood to determine how to engage and reach out to the community, as well as to gather views and feedback from various stakeholders.
