Grab to charge higher fares come June, but there's no reason to complain just yet

Look out for increased fares when you book a ride via Grab come June.
The ride-hailing platform has just announced that it will be raising fares in a bid to raise driver earnings as ridership is expected to fall as Singapore moves into Phase 2 (Heightened Alert).
The fare hike will apply to all of Grab's transport services, except for its standard taxi booking service, GrabHitch, and the GrabCoach service.
There's no need to get mad however, as Grab states that it will not collect commissions from the $1 hike during this period. So each dollar will go towards helping its driver-partners tide through this period. Furthermore, the firm also stated that it would offer $1 vouchers for peak hour rides between 1 June and 14 June 2021.
Ridership levels, the firm states, "plummeted drastically" last year, and has yet to return to pre-pandemic levels.
The Government has also recently announced a $27 million aid package for all private-hire vehicle and taxi drivers to aid them through this trying period.
