Hyundai Motor Group (HMG) has announced that an industry-leading total of 12 models from Hyundai (five), Kia (two), and Genesis (five) have received honours at the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) 2025 TOP SAFETY PICK (TSP) and TOP SAFETY PICK+ (TSP+) awards, representing 25% of the total honours given out.
Five models from Hyundai Motor received the TSP+ award: the Ioniq 5, Kona SUV, Tucson SUV, Santa Fe SUV (built after November 2024), and the Ioniq 6.
Four models from Genesis also received the TSP+ award: the GV60 SUV, electrified GV70 SUV, the GV70 SUV (built after April 2024), and the GV80 SUV. In addition, the G90 large luxury sedan was also recognised with a TSP award.
Lastly, the two Kia TSP+ award winners were the EV9 SUV and the Telluride SUV. All the vehicle mentioned were 2025 model year unless otherwise specified.
It is worth noting that IIHS updated its TSP and TSP+ award criteria for 2025, placing greater emphasis on protection for second-row occupants. Tests will now require advanced seat belt technology and other safety innovations to score highly, with further updates and higher standards resulting in just 48 models qualifying for the 2025 awards, as compared to 71 in 2024.
