Hyundai's concept SUV makes surprise global premiere

The Hyundai Boulder Concept SUV has made its surprise global debut at the 2026 New York International Auto Show, previewing the brand's fully-boxed body-on-frame architecture - a new platform confirmed to underpin a production midsize pickup to be delivered by 2030.
The Boulder Concept showcases Hyundai's "Art of Steel" design philosophy, with the Hyundai Steel's natural formability revealing flowing volumes and precise lines. Its overall silhouette looks like an upright greenhouse, with dual safari-style fixed upper windows and coach-style doors revealing enhanced side-loading capabilities for both the first and second rows.
A stout, low-profile roof rack includes steel webbing between the roof rails for extra cargo-carrying capability, and the exterior is finished in Liquid Titanium.
Off-road capabilities are defined by its 37-inch mud-terrain tyres, including a tailgate-mounted full-size spare. Elements of the concept's exterior, such as tow hooks and door handles, include reflective material that makes the vehicle easier to spot in the dark.
A power drop-down rear window on the tailgate accommodates extra-long objects and enables flow-through ventilation when the SUV is on the move.
Inside, key touchpoints such as its grab bars and other high-wear areas utilise robust materials. Frequent-use switchgear includes satisfying physical knobs and buttons within easy reach, even when bouncing over uneven terrain.
And while the Boulder Concept SUV currently remains a pure design study, its body-on-frame construction, bold proportions, functional priorities, and target audience all blaze a formidable trail for Hyundai's forthcoming production midsize pickup, which is set to be delivered by 2030.
