Hot Hot Heat: Volkswagen Polo R set to make scorching debut at Geneva Motor Show

The Volkswagen Polo R has been rumoured to be in development for some time now with spies shot of the model allegedly surfacing late last year. News of the model had faded since but now the rumour mills have picked up a new trail of the hot hatch's development. Volkswagen head of R&D, Ulrich Hackenberg, has confirmed that the Polo R will debut at the Geneva Motor Show next March. The launch timing is reportedly in sync with the automaker's WRC entry. Coincidentally, the Polo R will also be heavily influenced by the WRC Street concept that will be entering the World Rally Championship 2013 and could feature a turbocharged 2.0-litre engine with 225bhp. This will likely enable the model to accelerate from 0-100km/h in 6.0 seconds, before hitting a top speed in excess of 241km/h.
Additionally, Hackenberg also confirmed that a Golf R is under development and is scheduled to be launched in 2013 or 2014. He also hinted it will have a "good, powerful 2.0-litre engine."
