Inchcape publishes 2023 sustainability report

Inchcape plc, global automotive distributor operating in more than 40 markets worldwide, has published its inaugural sustainability report, setting out the progress made in achieving its 2023 sustainability targets and its enhanced role supporting the mobility transition.
The firm states that operating responsibly is central to its role in accelerating the performance of its mobility partners and continuously strengthening relationships with key stakeholders.
It states that it reached a host of significant milestones across the four key pillars of its Responsible Business framework, with highlights of the last year including achieving a 6.6% year-on-year reduction in scope 1 and 2 emissions, bolstered by the rollout and the installation of solar power at over 40 sites, as well as having had 800 colleagues enrolled in its Early Careers programme.
Furthermore, 100 women have graduated from the Women into Leadership programme since its inception, and leadership positions held by women increased from 22% in 2022 to 28% in 2023. The firm also saw the rollout of an updated Code of Conduct in 35 countries, as well as 21 road safety initiatives in the year.
Locally, the firm has established a partnership with Singapore Polytechnic to introduce the Singapore Future Mobility Academy aimed at upskilling the workforce to be ready to support the increasing adoption of electric vehicles, launched Toyota's first car-sharing programme in the region, FlexiGo, within Tengah Township, Singapore's pioneering smart energy town. Recently, Inchcape also introduced water-recycling car wash gantries, projected to save 7.5 million liters of water annually.
Inchcape states that these moves put it closer to reaching its overarching sustainability targets that include a reduction in absolute scope 1 and scope 2 emissions by 46% by 2030 compared to a 2019 baseline, and reaching net zero emissions across these two scopes by 2040.
