Jaguar records its V8 for future generations to listen

As models including the F-PACE SVR Edition 1988 and F-Type 75 mark the final applications of Jaguar's 5.0-litre V8, Jaguar has captured the roar of its engine for generations to come.
The recordings were created in Jaguar's purpose-built semi-anechoic chamber at the Gaydon Engineering Centre - the same place that F-TYPE's exhaust note was originally developed. Captured from inside the cabin and from the outside of an F-TYPE R 75, the 30 and 47-second recordings begin with engine start-up, signified by the instantly recognisable 'flare' as the revs rise before settling down to a steady 600rpm idle.
Listeners will then be able to hear the engine as it delivers crisp upshifts and downshifts through its eight-speed transmission and the distinctive, hallmark crackles and pops on the overrun from its quad tailpipes, a key element of F-TYPE's visceral, driver-focused character (catch our review of the car equipped with the 2.0-litre engine here).
Jaguar has shared these recordings with the British Library, enabling people worldwide - and for all time. These recordings will be catalogued in the British Library archives and accessible at its website from late 2023. In the meantime, catch our review of the Jaguar F-PACE SVR here.
